Gasdynamic Lasers: An Introduction
Published in Textbook Binding by Academic Press (June, 1976)
Author: John David Anderson
Average review score:

A fascinating and easily-read introduction to the GDL
"Gasdynamic Lasers: an Introduction" by John Anderson is truly a seminal work in the field, and is very easy to read. The mechanisms, peripherals, and priciples of the device are explained in plain language with just the right amount of mathematics, to excite the reader enough about this wonderful device, to want to get some hands-on, and/or dive into somewhat more parametrically intense volumes such as the excellent "Gasdynamic Laser" by S. A. Losev. Numerous graphs, drawings, and photographs of experimental GDLs mesmerize the reader, showing how the devices are actually constructed and operated. Combustion methods such as burners and arc tunnels are described. Fuel mixtures are discussed, as are the resulting exhaust gas content which is the active medium in this case. Internal topography such as supersonic nozzles which are used to freeze the vibrational states of the active medium in preparation for energy extraction are shown. Anderson even tells you how to get the spent gas out of the way. The book "talks to the reader" in a friendly and inviting way. This one really made me want to go out and pick up some pipe and sheetmetal... A great read, and about as close to a set of plans as I have ever seen!

Geneva Bible
I don't have a copy but I'm in the market for a used one. This Bible was incredibly popular before the King James and even for a hundred or two years after the KJV appeared. It was written mostly by John Calvin and has stronger language in it than King James would allow in the KJV. PC was in then too. It is the the most underrated Bible among Christians and it is the greatest. There exists no really good facimile copy or even a good recreated copy that I know of. But there may be such that has escaped me. This is my first trip to A.com and I have yet to exhaust their services in this or any other matter. I love the net and you should to. What is needed is the digitalization and availability of all the great stuff of the past. This is the market. If you want to help me bring the good stuff to the people contact me at LFC4U@hotmail.com or sharpo@earthlink.net or PatriotsVoice.Org. My phone is 703 267 6565 and my address is PO Box 2324 Vienna, VA 22183-2324 Bob

The Geneva Bible: The New Testament, 1602 Edition

Wow!
I bought a copy of this Bible to check it out and see what the famous Geneva Bible was like. I thought I'd resell it after I'd looked at it because, after all, I already owned many versions of the Bible and I didn't want to spend the money for this one. But after I got it in the mail, I began to read it. The more I read it, the more I couldn't put it down. The translation and commentary are so rich, powerful, and insightful! It deepened my understanding and gave me the Genevans' understanding of the Word of God.

The Geneva Bible is not easy to read at first because of its antiquated grammar and typeset, but I found that as I continued to read through it, the task became increasingly easier. I discovered that the Geneva Bible is fascinating as a work of both history and theology. I strongly recommend that you check it out! If you do, you'll find out what I mean about being unable to put it down!

Geography and Plays
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Wisconsin Pr (October, 1993)
Authors: Gertrude Stein, Cyrena N. Pondrom, and Sherwood Anderson
Average review score:

Miracle year
Of the three great books published 1922/23--Ulysses, The Wasteland, and Geography and Plays--I rate Stein's work the highest. It is a bit daunting at first, though you will probably be amused at least by the wit on every page. But for experiments in poetry, plays, and prose, it by far outstrips Joyce and Eliot. The one essential modernist work. So advanced it is actually postmodernist in its approach to its audience, including, as it does, echoes of what is happening now around her so as to achieve a release from time and to become essentially timeless. Try it and see. This is a great investment. The first edition in four separate bindings is worth seeking out, though Stein tends to be pricey. But just read it in any edition. You'll love it. Giant Book of Puzzles & Games
Published in Paperback by Sterling Publications (April, 1997)
Authors: Sheila Anne Barry, Doug Anderson, and Shelia Anne Barry
Average review score:

A Million and One Uses
Packed with 600 pages of games, riddles, mazes, activities, and physical challenges, the Giant Book of Puzzles & Games is a great reference tool for not only families, but anyone who works with children. This book solves the dilema of how to keep children occupied, regardless of their age or gender. Perfect for rainy days, long car trips, vacations, camping trips, birthday parties, sleep-overs, scout meetings, family nights, or quiet time alone, the activities will challenge parents and children alike. Educators should also take note, since teachers, as well as "before and after school" project coordinators will find this book a relative gold mine of ideas to supplement classroom curriculums and activity schedules.

With titles that range from "Quiet Time" to "Test Yourself" and "Special Party Games", the 11 chapters allow for quick and easy reference. Subcategories within each chapter further help readers locate special areas of interest.

Interestingly, I found myself flipping through the book to read the jokes and riddles, as well as work the challenges, whenever I had a few minutes of time. Frequently, a "few minutes" turned into a few hours. Information on the book's back cover states that "There are enough puzzles to keep you entertained for years." This the truth, and like all good books, you won't put it down.
